NEC: TURBO DUO
This is definetively one of the best consoles of all times! What a shame it was never officially introduced in europe.
It was only available in the U.S. and in Japan where it was also very wide spread. The release date of this great
machine was September 1991, so around the time when computer and videogames were really popular, and at that time there
were so many different systems around that it was quite hard to deceide which one to buy.
But this machine can also play all Hu-Card games that were released for a console called "PC-Engine"
which was published already in october 1987!

So here you can see the U.S. Turbo Duo, three joypads, the five player "interface"
(if you don't have it, the console itself can only connect to one pad!) and the packagings...
TECHNICAL DATA:
CPU: HuC6280 7.16 MHz
Colors: 512 of 512 but mostly 32 used only!
Rez: 216x224 - 320x224 - theoratically possible aswell 512x256
Sprites: 64 simultainously - 16x16 dots per sprite - max 16 colors each
Sound: Hu Cards with PCM, six channels - CD-Rom with ADPCM synthesized
CD-Buffer: 128 kb - 256 kb with system card 3.0 - 2.3 MB using the Arcade Card
Backup RAM: 2 kb - BIOS ROM: 256 kb - Video RAM: 64 kb
I gathered this information out of diffrent mags and books, I don't know if it is 100 percent correct.

Here you can see the Hu-card input, and what these cards look like. The machine has to be
modified to play cards from different countries (so: U.S. model can only play U.S. cards etc...)

And here is the cd drive. It was also available as external unit for PC-Engine.
Of course you can play audio CD's on it as well...games can be copied, but that is not so easy...
U.S. Hu-Cards
The biggest difference of the U.S. Hu-Cards compared to the japanese cards is that they get
delivered in an additional packaging. The japanese cards are only in a jewel case, while the
U.S. cards come with an additional cardboard box.
